Little Neighbours
Building confident, connected little citizens through real-world community experiences
Our ‘Little Neighbours’ programme helps children build a sense of belonging and connection within our local community.
Through regular outings and real-life experiences, tamariki explore the people, places, and spaces that make up our neighbourhood.
Whether visiting local shops, our friends at Remuera Gardens Village, delivering baking or exploring the park or library, children develop confidence, communication skills, empathy, and an understanding of their role as active members of the community.
These authentic experiences support early literacy, maths, social competence, and problem-solving in meaningful ways — from counting money at the supermarket to practising road safety and building relationships with local people.
At Uplands Kindergarten, we believe children learn best through connection, participation, and hands-on experiences. Uplands ‘Little Neighbours’ encourages tamariki to care for their community, develop independence, and see themselves as capable contributors within the world around them.

"Uplands has been such an amazing kindy for our son! The teachers are so kind and engaging with the kids and have gone the extra mile with our son. Without a doubt the best decision we made was enrolling him at Uplands. He loves going to kindy and is always really excited to go! Highly recommend :)"
